A Rapist, fraud and now a murderer, with all the titles, Gurmeet Ram Rahim, sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati on Thursday. Ram Rahim, who is already serving a 20-year life sentence in two rape cases and other fraud cases too.
According to India Today, he was found guilty of the murder of a journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati in 2002 and was sentenced by a CBI special court in Haryana. Justice was served after 16 years of crime. Like wow!!! Is this even acceptable!
Chhatrapati used to run a newspaper PooraSach, which had published a series of reports exposing the sexual abuse of girls and women in the Ram Rahim’s ashram in Sira, Haryana. Also, the report says, he was shot on the 24th of October in 2002. He had succumbed to his injuries later.
A case had then been registered against Ram Rahim in 2003. The CBI had taken over the case in 2006 and a charge sheet had been filed in 2007. Looking at the process, for journalist Chhatrapati’s murder, reminds me of the “Birbal’s Khichdi” story.
The CBI Special Court has also convicted three other accused, Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh and Krishan Lal and sentenced them to life imprisonment with a fine of ₹50,000 each.
