It was in 2011, a Chinese boy, only 17-year-old was so desperate to get an iPhone sold his right kidney that too illegally. And now he is now forever bedridden due to organ failure.
According to a report, the boy’s name is Wang Shangkun, did just that so he could buy the latest iPhone in 2011. Soon after the operation, due to organ failure, he has been bedridden ever since that.
He was just 17 years old when he peddled his kidney on the black market for ₹2.3 lacs. He used the money to purchase an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4.
“Why do I need a kidney? One is enough,” that was his response when asked about this stupid decision of his. Teens are impulsive and a decision made impulsively will never lead you to a good path.
Now after 8 years, Whang is bedridden and attached to a dialysis machine and is likely for the rest of his life. He requires daily dialysis to clear his blood of the toxins that his left kidney can no longer filter.
According to Gizmodo, doctors have informed him that he can now probably use a transplant of his own which might cost him 8 times more than what he was paid for.
And about the illegal operation, nine doctors were involved and out of them, five have been charged for intentional injury and organ trading.
