Chennai Book Fair from Today

The 42nd edition of the Chennai Book Fair organised by the Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI) starts from today and will run till January 20, 2019, at YMCA Grounds, Nandhanam.

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami inaugurated the book fair yesterday.

“We will be having over 800 stalls and expect over 400 publishers to participate. The fair will be open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on working days and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends and public holidays,” said S. Vairavan, President, BAPASI. Over 11 lakh people visited the fair last year. BAPASI expects more people to visit the fair this year. There are events scheduled every evening and writers, poets and others will engage in discussions and give a talk.

“To make it easier for the visitors, we will be publicising all the new books which are being published and released at the fair on our website and social media,” said A.R. Venkatachalam, association treasurer.

While ₹10 will be charged as the entrance fee, the association will be distributing free passes across schools.
